Mole is any congenital anomaly of the skin including nevi and birthmarks. In simpler terms, you can say any irregularity or dark spot in the skin is a mole. Diagnosis of Moles
Dermatologists tell whether a spot is a mole or not as they are trained in their field and there eyes can easily tell this. They will only remove moles if:
” They are bothering the patient.
” Patient finds them unattractive.
” They are suspicious that it might cause skin cancer.
Mole can be removed during office visit or maybe a second visit is also required. Mole removal can be done in two ways:
” Surgical excision: in this dermatologist cut the whole mole and stitches the skin if necessary. The removed mole is watched under microscope to check for cancer cells. Patient is informed if such cells are found.
” Surgical shave: In this dermatologist, use a surgical blade to remove the mole. In addition, in this as well mole is examined under microscope to know whether it is cancerous or not.
Never Try Mole Removal At Home
One should never try mole removal at home because:
” Skin cancer: if a mole contains skin cancer, some of the cells may remain in the skin and spread as well.
” Infection: removing mole at home may cause infection as dermatologists use sterilized equipments and hence resulting to safe mole removal.
” Causes scars: Removing mole at home can disfigure skin and can cause a scar
It isn’t compulsory to remove every single mole from your body, some as considered as beauty marks as well. Nevertheless, if it is doubtful to be cancerous then one should surely consult a dermatologist. You should not risk your health at any cost.
